Starshield Speed Limits Hamper Ukrainian Drone Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that speed limits on the Starshield satellite system are impeding frontline drone strikes. He is seeking explanations for the restrictions imposed on the SpaceX Starshield defence system.
What happened
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian frontline units were experiencing operational difficulties due to speed limits on the Starshield satellite system.
- Specifically, the system’s equipment reportedly ‘stops functioning’ at speeds between 130 and 160 kilometers per hour across various sectors of the front line.
- This issue is disrupting the coordination of drone strikes against Russian forces.
- Separately, a Ukrainian army brigade demonstrated the use of an aerial drone to rescue a wounded soldier from the front line.
- The brigade published a video showing the drone lowering itself to the ground and then lifting the soldier via a winch.
- The US government has not yet provided an explanation for the imposed speed restrictions on Starshield, which is a Pentagon-controlled arm of SpaceX’s Starlink system.
