Fighting Intensifies in Yemen
Clashes between Yemeni forces and Houthis have escalated across multiple fronts, particularly in Taiz and al-Jawf. Humanitarian agencies report a worsening crisis with rising displacement and critical shortages.
What happened
- Fighting intensified across Yemen as government forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, launched a counteroffensive known as ‘Dawn of Yemen’ aimed at recapturing Houthi-held territory.
- Government troops reported killing 12 Houthi fighters in al-Aqroud, Taiz governorate, and broke a Houthi attack on the al-Shaqab front in the same governorate.
- Simultaneously, government forces and allied Popular Resistance fighters advanced in al-Jawf and Marib, utilizing artillery barrages and drone strikes against Houthi positions.
- The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, claimed the downing of a Saudi reconnaissance drone over Hajjah and an Apache helicopter in Najran.
- Saudi-led coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki attributed the Najran helicopter crash to a technical malfunction.
- Further, Houthi media reported 10 Saudi air strikes targeting sites in Saada governorate.
- Separately, armed men attacked an LNG tanker off the coast of al-Mukalla, firing warning shots before the vessel’s security detail forced the attackers to disengage.
